Leiji Matsumoto was born on January 25, 1938 in Fukuoka, Japan as Akira Matsumoto. He is a writer and director, known for Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years (1985), Space Battleship Yamato (1974) and Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato: Warriors of Love (1978). He is married to Miyako Maki.
